Parihaka

Kia Ora readers today we were doing a research about Parihaka, after we did some research and watch the videos about the Parihaka we have to answer the questions about the Parihaka.

Here are the Questions and Answers.

  • What events lead up to Parihaka being established? The Parihaka is being established because almost all of the Maori land had been confiscated by the government for those rebel Maori’s punishments.

  • What were the ideas behind setting up Parihaka? The ideas behind setting up Parihaka is that the Maori were self-sufficient,that they also have the same right as the Europeans settlers.

  • Who established Parihaka? The two people who show the real meaning of peace are the ones who stand for their rights and they are Te Whiti-o-Rongomai and Tohu Kakahi.

  • Where is Parihaka located? The Parikaha is located in between the Tasman sea and the Mount Taranaki in New Zealand. It's a community in the Taranaki region.

  • When did the invasion of Parihaka occur? The invasion of Parihaka occurred on  the morning of November 5,  1881. Parihaka was invaded by fifteen hundred government soldiers and also the people who volunteered to join. The leaders,Te whiti-o-Rongomai and Tohu were also arrested and most of the Maori villages were destroyed by the troops.

  • How do you think the people of Parihaka were feeling when the troops entered their village? When the troops entered the village the people were scared and afraid but when the troops tooked Tohu and Te Whiti,as the troops and Tohu and Te Whiti walked away and as they left the two man said to the Parihaka people to be steadfast, peaceful and unafraid.

  • Do you think stories about the events of 5th November 1881 were reported on by the media at the time? I think the stories about the events of 5th of November 1881 were reported on by the media at the time and I also think that the media went to the European side because at that time the Europeans had more power than the Maori.

  • How long were Te Whiti and Tohu imprisoned? Where? What did they intend to do when they returned to Parihaka?Te Whiti and Tohu were imprisoned for 6 months and when they returned to Parihaka they still stood up on their rights in a peaceful way.

  • What was the impact on Maori when the New Zealand Company and other representatives of "The Crown" confiscated or purchased land very cheaply from Maori? What happened to Maori who lost their land? Where and how did they live? The impact of Maori’s land wasn’t that impressive.Maori people didn’t get to eat that much food because some people's land got taken away and that's why they didn’t have a lot of food to eat, which can cause sickness and spread. They mostly get illness and sickness which affects the adults but it affects the children mostly. Those Maori people who were banished from their land.

  • How do you think the New Zealand wars impacted on iwi and groups of people who were no longer able to live on their whenua? The people that were no longer allowed to go to their whenua was hard for them because loosing their own land  isn’t that easy for them and it affects their daily lifetime their food was in their land and since they were no longer allowed to back to their land they don't have that much food to eat everyday.

  • What does the word PEACE mean to you? What is "passive resistance? What does the phrase mean? For me peace means freedom out of violence and it also means calm and knowing that you don't have to worry about some and that's what peace means to me.Passive resistance means no violence and refusal to any requirements .

  • What other ways are there to solve major issues between people / countries that do not use violence as a way of controlling others or solving problems?Ways of solving major issues between people /countries that u don't have to include violence are by talking it out or figuring out where it starts or making an agreement on something or someone.

  • Who are some of the other world leaders who have used passive resistance? What was their cause and how is it peaceful? In social media the people who have used the ‘Black lives matter’ as their profiles have used passive resistance. It was peaceful because they have helped to cheer those people who were involved in the ‘Black lives matter’ .

Gold Rush

Kia Ora readers welcome to my blog, today here in Social studies we were learning about Gold rush and here are some brainstorms about Gold Rush.

Gold rush is basically Gold mining, most of the people use trucks to dig under ground because the ground is kinda hard to dig with shovels and after they dig they uses hands to look for the gold, because the gold is just a very small flecks in the quartz veins of hard rocks. The gold can be mine in this places like tunnel and undergrounds. Many people use pan to remove the exes dirt on the gold. Basically Discrimination means unfair treatment of one person or a group of people based on their characteristics.

Navigation in space

 Kia Ora readers

Welcome back to my blog and today here in Hurrumanu 3 we were researching about Navigation in space, and after we research we have to answer the question related to the research.

Here are the questions about the research.

What is a solar system? Our solar system consist our stars, our earth and everything bound to it by gravity the planets Mercury,Venus,Earth,Mars,Jupiter,Saturn,Uranus and Neptune and the solar system controls those planets to go around the sun. What is the milky way an example of?An example of the Milky Way is the galaxy that holds the Solar System in which the Earth is located. The closest large spiral galaxy to the Milky Way is the Andromeda galaxy, which is larger at 220,000 light years across. It is 2.7 million light years away.

What is a star?A star is normally a ball of gas,it is mostly hydrogen and helium, held together by its own gravity. Nuclear fusion in its core support the star against its gravity, and produces photons and heat. Describe a Nebula. A nebula is an a interstellar cloud of dust,Hydrogen, helium and other ionizer gases. How do stars die?The stars die because they ran out of the hydrogen and helium, they ran out of hydrogen and helium because through there lives, stars are fighting against the crushing force of their own gravity. Inside the nuclear reactions fuse together smaller elements to create a bigger energy and because of that the stars were running out of Hydrogen and helium.

Is there a up and down in space? There is a up and down in space, and down is basically the direction of the gravity pulling you,and the up is just the opposite of the down. How can stars be use to navigate?

Daylight saving

 Kia Ora readers

Today we are here in Home room with Mrs. Hastie and we were researching about daylight saving in New Zealand and then after we research we have to answer some questions about the daylight saving in New Zealand.

When does Daylight Saving happen each year in New Zealand?
Daylight saving happen each year in New Zealand at Sunday,
27 September and the daylight saving will end at Sunday,4 April.

What year did it start in NZ?
According to google the first daylight saving on New Zealand started at 1927.

Why was Daylight Saving started? Write at least 2 sentences to answer this question.
The daylight saving started so the farmers can have more time working at the farm at night. It saved the power because people has an extra hour of light at night.

Read the following article and write a paragraph (3-8 sentences) on whether or not you think that Daylight Saving should continue in New Zealand.

I would love to continue the daylight saving because when I wake up in the morning its not cold but its warm and I also want to have daylight saving so it can help the farmer to work more on the farm. It also help the parents to have more time of doing the chores. Then since we have daylight saving the parents dosent have to wake up early everyday to just do the chores. Then we can stay up late and read books or have a bond with your family.

Do all the states in Australia have Daylight Saving? Who does and who doesn’t?
In AustraliaDaylight saving is observed in New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia, Tasmania, the Australian Capital Territory and Norfolk Island. Daylight saving is not observed in Queensland, the Northern Territory, Western Australia, Christmas Island or the Cocos (Keeling) Islands.

Write 3 tips to help others adjust to Daylight Saving this weekend.
Always wake up early.
Stick to your real schedule.
Don't take long nap.

Business & Enterprise

 Kia Ora readers
Last week we were doing business & Enterprise and here are my teammates Lhysette the CEO, Cate production manager,Jhrnylle the Marketing manager and I'm the finance manager and yesterday we were allowed to sell our products to the teachers, student and visitors.

Why do we need four people on a group?
We need four people on a group because you have to have a finance manager,CEO,Marketing manager and  production manager, but what do they do? The finance manager has write all of the things that we need to make the product and also the finance manager also had to add all of the cost and profit of the group. The CEO makes sure that all of the people of the group was doing the right thing.Marketing manager does the poster of the group and encourages the people to buy our stuff. Production manager is to make sure we have everything we needed.

What did I like?
My favourite part of the business & Enterprise was when we made our products because we get to decorate our products make slime scrunchies and bracelet's.

What would I like to change next time.
I would like to have more time on making the products because there was a lot of groups that was rushing when they were making the products and that's why I would like to have  more time of making the products.
How much did is cost to make our product? How much did we borrow?
The total of cost our stuff that we need was 18 dollars because we bought three wool string which causes 3 dollars each and glitters which causes 4 and a hair tie for the scrunchies which it cause 5 and when we add that all together that will be 18 dollars and we borrowed $18 dollars on the stuff that we need to buy for our product.

How much money did we make on the market day?
On the market day when we sold all of our stuff and got the total of 37.50 dollars.

What was our total profit?
Our total profit was 22 dollars because we have to subtract the money that we borrowed on the school so that is why we have the total of 22 dollars profit.

Was this what we expected?why/why not?
Were expecting that we were gonna have 40 dollars because we made 6 slime and each of the slime's were 2 dollars each and so as the scrunchies but we made 8 bracelets and 2 dollars each and if I added all of that that will be 40 dollars.

Science

 Kia Ora readers

Today here in Hurrumanu 3 we were learning about different communication and know we did an challenge about communication, you have to pick which communication you would like to do like flag signs, mores code or binary code. If you already pick you have to do then you have to make a flag of your communication you have to go on a four teams that is doing the same communication then split into two groups. The other group has to guess what word are you trying to say by using the flags that you made and if the other group guessed the word then you have to switch the other group will think of a word then the other group will guess.

Me and my group decided to do binary code. But how does the binary code work?,basically the binary code is just 1 and 0 you have to think of a word then try and say it by using binary code,if you dont know the binary alphabets you can search binary code then you will see the binary alphabet. My group guessed the word correctly and also the other group.

Healthy life style

 Kia Ora readers

Today here in Hurrumanu 6 we were researching about something that is just bad for your health and why is it bad for your health. I decided to do fast food and here are some of the things that I research and found out.

Why is fast food bad for you?

Fast food is bad for you because it has a high sodium, saturated as fat, trans fat and cholesterol, and fast food is something that you should not be eating that often but what is cholesterol is it a bad thing or a good thing?. Cholesterol is an sterol, a type of liquid that is a cholesterol biosynthesis( biosynthesis is a complex of molecules within living organisms or cells.) by all animal cells. Sometimes cholesterol can be called "bad", because it makes up the most of your body's cholesterol. That can increase your cholesterol and can raise you risk of your heart.
