Skittles Colour Experiment

 Kia Ora Readers

Aim:

I want to find out what happens when I put Skittles into water.

Method:

Equipment:

  • Skittles
  • Petri Dish
  • Warm water
  • Beaker
  • White background

Instructions:

  1. Gather the equipment's
  2. Get 8x Skittles
  3. Put the skittles in the Petri Dish.
  4. Spread the skittles evenly around the outside of the Petri Dish
  5. Get the warm water and gently pour the warm water in the Petri Dish.
  6. Don't over fill the Petri Dish.
  7. Then observe and record what happens
Prediction:
I think I will see the colours go away from the Skittles and the colours will go on the water.

Results:

I saw the colour slowly goes in the middle but they didn't go into someonelse boundaries but in the end part they sorta went to someonelse boundaries, and I also saw the colours fade away from the skittles.

Discussion:

  • The colour of the skittle dissolved. Dissolved means when a solid mixes into a liquid creating solution.
  • The colour also spread out in the water. The colours were Concentrated and diffused ( Diffused means when something maybe stretches or expands out on the surface or extends on the surface) to area where there was no colours .
  • The colour did not mix with the other colour. The colours had different solubilities,
