Reading

Kia Ora everyone

Welcome back to my blog for this week I've done reading.I did also an alternate ending and the title is Dive and the author is Gina Cole.I really like the story did you like the story too? The source of the story is that the dad of the girl is in the Auckland and he surprised her daughter that he got home. I hope you like it.

It was hotter than the sauna at the New market pool, and I stood on the bank, lost in a daze. My cousin Eddy
waited on the opposite side, hands planted on hips. She was from me, always joking round. Now she squinted in the sun and
her head, amused. Rivulets of water dripped down her black-brown legs. “Hurry up, cuz,” she called. “We’ll be late
for the lava – and I’m hungry. I want some Kumala.” The turquoise water was so bright and perfect it looked like a cartoon. Sticks and debris floated on the current. I imagined it carrying me away, too, out into the Pacific. Instead, I took a breath, took my phone from my pocket, and lowered myself into the cool river. I kicked my legs in wide arcs like I did at squad training, but it was an awkward
one-handed breaststroke so I could hold my phone up, and soon I was panting.Water sloshed into my mouth, and I turned my head. That’s when I saw something moving below me – something long and black and white.“What’s that stripy thing?” I shouted at Eddy.
“Sea snake. It won’t hurt you.”
“What? No way!”
The snake came towards me, and I shrieked and swam hard for the other
side. I hauled myself onto the hot sand and sat there, crying. “I dropped my
phone!” I wailed to Eddy. “It’s in the water.”
“How will you hear it ring?” she joked.
I began to cry even harder. How would I talk to Dad? I could hardly borrow
Mum’s phone.
Eddy knew some of this stuff, and her expression changed. “I’ll find it,” she
said. Before I could reply, she dived in. I shielded my eyes from the glare and
scanned the water. Eddy’s head popped up downstream. She took a deep breath
and dived back down, legs kicking out behind her. When she reappeared, she’d
drifted even further. “Can’t see it,” she shouted.
I ran along the bank, dodging coconut trees. We had to find it. I wasn’t lea Zing
here until we did. Then I spied something orange on the riverbed.
“Over there,” I yelled, pointing.
Eddy dipped below the surface, but she was way off course. Sea snakes
or not, I had no choice. I ran at the river and dived in, reminding myself to stay
focused. It was something our swimming coach always said. I cut through the
water, strong and quick, using a breathing technique I’d just learnt. I grabbed
the orange rectangle as it rolled over the sandy bottom and launched myself
back up to the surface, punching a handful of water and phone high in the air.
There was no dropping it this time.
I dog-paddled with my free hand and kicked out like a demented frog,
reaching the golden sand just before the river met the sea. When Eddy spotted
me, I was back on the bank, shaking my phone, hoping it would dry out in the
hot Fijian sun.
“Wow! Cool dive,” Eddy said. She looked at my phone. “Is it working?”
“It’s meant to be waterproof. It should be OK.”
At that precise moment, the phone rang. We looked at each other, amazed.
Eddy started laughing. “Answer it!”It was Dad, and I felt a weird stab of nerves. We hadn’t talked for a week,
not since the night Mum and I left Auckland.
“Hey, Dad,” I said.
“Hi, Shelly. How’s it going? What are you up to?”
“Oh ... nothing. You know, swimming.”
“I’m glad you’re still training. Have you got a decent-sized pool there?”
“No pool, but I’ve been in the sea a few times. It’s kind of scary. There are
sea snakes!”
Dad laughed. “Seriously! Don’t worry, I’m sure you can out-swim them.”
There was a pause. I could guess what he was going to say next.
“How’s your mum?”
Good question. She’d seemed all right yesterday, but I remembered the way
she’d been on the flight over. he’d stared out the window, then spent the rest of
the time under a blanket. Now, in Fiji, she went for lots of walks and came back
with red eyes. And she went to bed way too early, even though my aunties begged
her to stay up. But should I tell Dad all this? Would Mum like that?
he silence grew while I stressed over what to say. I finally settled on a half truth.
“Mum’s OK.”
“That’s good,” said Dad. “I’d better get back to work. Bye, love. Talk soon.”
Eddy was watching me carefully, her usual smirk gone. I could taste salty tears.
“Come on. We can’t miss the lava,” she said, reaching down to haul me up.
“They’ll be digging it up soon.”
We wandered through the cool shade of the trees. There were no schedules here,
and I realised I’d begun to love this place: the oily smell of the kerosene lamps at
night; trimming bele leaves with my aunties; sitting round on panda nus mats, laughing
with my cousins. I missed Dad and our life in Auckland, but I didn’t miss everything.
to the rush and stress and fighting. I wondered how to tell mum about the call.
She knew Dad and I chatted. I never hid it from her, although this time, I’d felt impatient
to get off the phone – maybe because Mum had seemed a tiny bit happier the last few
days. I didn’t want to change that.
Eddy followed a track that led to a weatherboard church and a clearing. Underneath
a mango tree, my uncles and aunties and Mum were hauling sacks from a smoking
hole in the earth. mum was smiling and speaking *Indian . When we’d first arrived, she’d
stumbled over the language. I knew she struggled to remember the words; she hadn’t
visited her family for a long time.“There you are!” Mum called. She’d changed out of her frilly church dress and had
on a sulu and a pink shirt. ,er face looked happy and relaxed, as though she’d finally
caught up on some sleep. She came over, carrying a steaming barracuda wrapped in
foil and some kumala. The sweet potato was hot, and Eddy and I juggled the pieces
from hand to hand.
“Sorry I missed the church service,” I said.
Mum gave me a knowing look. “You’re soaked.”
“Eddy and I went for a swim.” As mum and I and Eddy walk i saw dad walking from home i got surprised .He said he would not go home because he's in Auckland, I was very happy that i can finally see my dad I ask my dad If  we can swim and he said yes ,we swim in the sea with the snakes and it really is very fun. We celebrate with a lot of food because my dad is home and they lived happily ever after.

Alternate Ending

You’ve been on holiday to Sāmoa. Now you’re back in New Zealand, waiting to go through customs. You’ve filled in a passenger arrival card – and no, nothing to declare. One of the quarantine officers has a sniffer dog, a cute beagle, making its way down the queue. Eventually,  the beagle reaches you. The dog seems interested in the pocket on your backpack, and that’s when you remember ... yesterday’s mango! The parents are really worried that they might not go back to New Zealand because they weren't allowed to bring any food in  the plane like  a mango because there might be flies hiding in the mango. The officer said that they have to throw away the mango because its not allowed to bring mango in the plane and the officer grab the mango and throw it away ,The officer said that you must always check your backpack and luggage if there are and food that are not allowed to bring. The officer said that there allowed to go now and go inside of the plane because the mango is already out,The family is now in the New Zealand.

my Infrencing

Kiora readers
Today in hurumanu 2 we did some infrencing and we show are teachers.
If you dont know what Inferencing  is, It's like describing a picture but you have to answer some questions by only only looking at the picture

Here is my work:

                      “Enoki Tales”
*What’s happening here?
The big mushroom is reading a book to the baby mushroom.

*Do the two smaller mushrooms know the larger one?
Yes because if you look closely you can see spots like the big one.

*Have they done this before? How do you know?
Yes because the two little mushrooms seem to know already what they are doing  and the big mushroom seems to be happy to see them again.

*What is the larger mushroom reading? What kind of thing might you expect to find inside this book?
An Enoki tale, Inside of that book might be a tale about an adventure about Enoki.

*Enoki’ is the type of mushroom (it is the Japanese name for it, as it’s highly popular in Japan). Are the smaller mushrooms of the same species?
Yes because they look the same if you look closer they don't have a red color because they are still a baby mushroom.
*What do you think might be in the background?
There might be a big castle for the mushroom’s.

*Write a story that might belong in the book, ‘Enoki Tales’.
Research the enoki mushroom.
Once upon a time there A Enoki mushroom he was a strong solder he fight a lot of monster  and he fight a big and really strong monster, and Enoki punch the monster 4 times and he defeat the monster the end .

Every day after work Paul took his muddy boots off on the steps of the front porch. Alice would have a fit if the boots made it so far as the welcome mat. He then took off his dusty overalls and threw them into a plastic garbage bag; Alice left a new garbage bag tied to the porch railing for him every morning. On his way in the house, he dropped the garbage bag off at the washing machine and went straight up the stairs to the shower as he was instructed. He would eat dinner with her after he was “presentable,” as Alice had often said.

1. What type of job does Paul do? How do you know this?
  • Farm because he is wearing boots and  also its muddy in the farm his boots are also muddy.

2. Describe Alice: What in the text supports your description?
  • Kind because she removes his dirt overall so she doesn't make a mess.

3. What relationship do Paul and Alice have? Why do you feel this way?
  • Husband and wife because they said presentable.

Crack! Thunderstruck and rain poured. Max stared blankly out the window, trying to contain his emotions that raged like the weather. He was beginning to lose it. Dropping the kite from his hand, Max broke out into full sobs. His mother comforted him, “There, there, Max. We’ll just find something else to do.” She began to unpack the picnic basket that was on the counter and offered him a sandwich. Max snapped, “I don’t wanna sand-mich!” A flash from the sky lit up the living room. Boom! Mom sighed.

  1. Why is Max upset? How do you know this?
-Because he couldn’t play the kite.

  1. What was Mom planning on doing today? What in the texts supports your description?

Mom walked into the kitchen to put the grocery bags down on the counter when she noticed shattered glass from the picture window all over the living room floor and a baseball not far from there. “I’m going to kill you, Tommy!” Mom yelled to herself as she realized that Tommy’s shoes were gone.

 1. What happened to the window? How do you know this?

2. Why did Tommy leave? What in the text supports your description?

Today was a special day in Ms. Smith’s class. Some of the children were walking around the room, some of them were standing in small groups, and some of them were at their desks, putting finishing touches on cardboard mailboxes. After coloring a cool flame on the side of his race car mailbox, Johnny hopped off his chair, strutted over to Veronica’s desk, and dropped a small white envelope into her princess castle mailbox. Veronica blushed and played with her hair. While this was happening, Bartleby was frantically trying to put a small white envelope into everyone’s mailbox. After giving one to Ms. Smith, Bartleby pulled out a medium-sized red envelope from his pocket. He blushed and tried to put it in Veronica’s mailbox, but it wouldn’t quite fit. Bartleby struggled with it for a few seconds and then ran off with the envelope. Veronica rolled her eyes and popped her gum.

1. Why is today a special day? What in the text supports your idea?
  • Because it's mailbox day,Because they said putting some finish touches on the cardboard mailbox.
